Skyros Island National Airport lies in the Trachi area, about 17 kilometres north of the main town on this Sporades island in the Aegean. Opened in 1984 and run by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, it is a small but strategically important facility, sharing its grounds with a Hellenic Air Force missile unit. Despite its modest passenger traffic, roughly 18,000 travellers passed through in 2018, it offers a vital air link for an island otherwise reached by ferry.
