Sitia Public Airport, named after the Cretan poet Vitsentzos Kornaros, opened in 1984 and serves the town of Sitia in the Lasithi region of eastern Crete. This small community airport operates from a primary 2,074-metre asphalt runway (05/23); a shorter secondary runway is closed. A modern 7,500-square-metre terminal opened in 2016, expanding capacity. Olympic Air serves Athens, Karpathos, Kasos and Rhodes, while Sky Express adds routes to Alexandroupoli and Preveza/Lefkada.
