Nea Anchialos National Airport, sometimes branded as Central Greece Airport, is the main air gateway for the port city of Volos and the wider Thessaly region, also serving towns such as Larisa, Trikala, Karditsa and Lamia. It began operations in February 1991 and shares its site with a Hellenic Air Force base. The airport's asphalt runway measures about 2,759 metres, long enough for sizeable jet aircraft.
