Bearing the honorific name Alexandros Aristotelous Onassis, this island airport opened in 1972 to serve Kythira, the island lying off the southern Peloponnese. Set at about 319 metres elevation, it underwent renovation in 1998 when the terminal and control tower were rebuilt. A single asphalt runway, designated 02/20, measures roughly 1,461 metres. Olympic Air flies scheduled services to Athens, while Sky Express offers three weekly flights toward Corfu via Zakynthos, Kefalonia and Preveza.
