Serving the city of Kalamata and the wider southern Peloponnese, this airport dates to 1959 and shares its grounds with a Hellenic Air Force base and a long-standing flight training centre. It carries the name of shipping figure Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos and is operated by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority. Aegean Airlines opened a focus-city base here in 2013, complementing seasonal services from carriers such as easyJet, Ryanair, British Airways and Air France.
